Tagged & Answered

Awhile back, the lovely Newlywed & Deployed tagged me to answer a post of fun questions. I know I’m answering these late, but here are my answers!

1. Name your favorite place in the world.

Lake George, New York in the beautiful Adirondack mountains! It’s the place my parents met, the place I was brought on many vacations as a child, the place my parents bought their second home when I was a teenager, and the place Joshua and I chose to have our wedding! I ♥ LG.

2. If you had to recommend one book or movie, what would it be?
Summer Sisters by Judy Blume has been my favorite book since forever. But more recently, I’m loving this one:

3. What is your newest favorite song on the radio?
Mine by Taylor Swift… and might I add, her new album is fantastic? I love Taylor!

4. Describe your favorite pair of shoes.
Sexy, peep toe, and jeweled. I got these Nine West gems for a holiday work party last year, and they’re the perfect shoe to pair with a little black dress. I wore them to a wedding last weekend and I’ll be wearing them to the Marine Corps Birthday Ball this year!

5. If you could only live with one beauty product, what would it be and why?
Without a doubt, mascara. I have blonde eyelashes and I just look blah without it. I love mascara! I’m currently making my way through this collection of minis from Sephora.

6. If you had to choose between going without your cell phone or not showering for one week, which would you pick?
Now that Joshua is home, I’d go without my cell phone. But if he were still deployed, hell yes I’d go without a shower for a phone call!

7. I love blogging because…
It holds me accountable for the things I want to accomplish, and introduces me to new friends with similar interests.

8. The best advice I ever received was…
“You can’t discover new oceans unless you have courage to lose sight of the shore.”

Thanks for the questions, that was fun!

Sugar Doll Award

Thank you to Katie at Beautiful Mess for The Fabulous Sugar Doll Blogger Award! I received three blog awards recently, but I’m going to post them one at a time so I can take the time to award my fellow bloggers. So this one asks that I post 10 things about myself and then pass the award onto 10 people. Here we go!

  1. I had the perfect childhood… it had everything but the white picket fence. My friends called us a “sitcom” family because we had the mom, the dad, the daughter, the son, and the little white dog.
  2. My parents separated a year and a half ago, and it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through. I saw a therapist and she helped. Her name was Lucy.
  3. Right before my parents separated, my dad’s brother left his wife and my mom’s brother left his wife… then my dad’s brother got together with my mom’s brother’s ex-wife. So all my aunts and uncles are still the same… talk about awkward!
  4. I’ve moved more times than I can remember off the top of my head.
  5. I’ll try to remember all of the places I’ve moved, yeah? Location A in Upstate NY for one year; Langhorne, PA for 2 years; Prospect, CT for 2 years; Location B in Upstate NY for 3 years; Location C in Upstate NY for 2 years; Sparta, NJ for 10+ years… then we move into the college years. Boston, MA for 1 year (moved twice between dorms); Albany, NY for 3 years (moved into a different off-campus apartment all three years); New York City, NY for 3 months; Cleveland, OH for 6 months; Location D in Upstate NY for 1 year; Location E in Upstate NY for the past year.
  6. “Location E” is home with my Mom… my apartment lease was up right around the time my parents separated and Joshua and I got engaged. I moved home to save money for our wedding, and to be here for my mama.
  7. I love my job— I’m a packaging designer for a supermarket chain and it’s oh so fun.
  8. I’m about to take one of the biggest risks of my life. You will hear more about this in the months to come. It involves another big move.
  9. I have a lot of ideas as to how to turn my degree and interests into a “portable career” as a military wife… I’m working on them currently and reading lots of books about business.
  10. As I write this, I’m watching the cast of Eclipse on Jimmy Kimmel and I’m getting soooo excited for the premiere next week! My co-workers pre-ordered our tickets for the midnight show on the 29th…. eeeee!

I’m passing this award onto the past 10 bloggers who have left me comments, because I think you’re all sugar dolls for leaving me comments even though I owe them back to all of you! I promise to catch up with that soon. Thanks for being so awesome!

Dear Deployment,

YOU SUCK! Stop keeping my beloved away from the satellite phone, and stop killing our friends. Five lives from Joshua’s unit in a nine week period is plenty enough for us all. I hate this!

Topics to add my list of what I.O.U. in my next “real” blog post (whenever I actually have the time to sit down and write!):

  • Marine Week Boston & the 5K
  • Softball team I joined & how much I suck
  • My 25th birthday & my awesome family/friends
  • Mother’s Day & visiting Grandma Belle
  • Phone call from Joshua!!!!!
  • Retail therapy with my birthday monies
  • Jamie’s bridal shower!

Yes yes yes, much to discuss. I’ve just been so busy. It’s insane, it really is. Life just moves so quickly. At least it’s helping this deployment pass by. Some days I even feel like I’m running out of time before Joshua comes home, because my to-do lists are so long and never-ending, and I get scared I won’t be able to get everything done in time. Other days… they drag. If I don’t stop moving though, I cry. I can’t help it. If I don’t surround myself with positive people either, I get depressed. No toxic people allowed in my life! I have to stay focused. Busy. Driven.

P.S. Thank you to Bryce&Whit at Army Wife for this great award!

And to Allissa at Hope Floats and Ines at The Few, The Proud, The Wife for this sweet award!

You girls are nuts for awarding me when I’ve been such a bad blogger the past two weeks, but I do appreciate it nonetheless! Honestly, it’s 2:30am and I have to be up for work in 4 hours, so I’m not going to tag other bloggers this time… I’m still going through the blogs from the first military spouse blog hop, omg! Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up on everything soon.

I’ll make a new to-do list for the week and post it here! Goodnight for now.

Oh So Nice of You

My blog has been awarded by some awesome blog chicas out there! Time to spread the love… First, thank you to Allissa at Hope Floats, Laura at Diamonds & Dog Tags, and Mrs. Ma’am at My Life as an Air Force Wife for the *Friendly Blogger Award*! The rules of the award are to post it to your blog, write five things you love to do, and then pass it on to five other friendly bloggers.

Five things I love to do:
1. I ♥ to scrapbook: After long weeks at the office designing on the computer each and every day, it’s so nice to be able to sit down and actually work with my hands and be crafty. Photoshop and Illustrator are great, but I miss glue sticks, stickers, and funky scissors when I spend too much time doing what they pay me to do! I love graphic design, but it’s also a job. Scrapbooking is just for fun and just for me!

2. I ♥ to make care packages: They make me feel closer to Joshua. I try to make them as personalized as possible, and I like to imagine his reactions when he opens the boxes and what he likes and eats or takes out right away. They just… help. And I like to think they help him, too.

3. I ♥ to LEAVE the gym! I hate going to the gym, I hate being at the gym, but by the time I leave the gym… I feel fantastic! Seriously, great feeling.

4. I ♥ to go to the movies: I know it’s expensive, but going to the movies is such an escape from reality. I love taking a break from the world to get lost inside a movie theater for a couple of hours, where the room is dark and everything around me smells like buttered popcorn and chocolate. Yum!

5. I ♥ to check things off my to-do list: I’m obsessed with to-do lists. Seriously, my day planner is my bible. I keep lists for everyday, every month, and even a list of life goals in there. I’m nuts, I know, but when I check things off (and date them, because I’m psycho), I just feels so GOOD afterwards!

Next, thank you to Allie at My Marine and Me and Steph at Watching Airplanes for the *I Love Your Blog* award! The rules for this one are to list 10 things I love and to pass it on to 10 other bloggers.

Ten things I love:
1. Joshua
I love my baby more than anything in the world. He absolutely completes me and is my hero and everything I want in my husband-to-be!

2. Shopping
Can you say… retail therapy? It’s a problem.

3. Long showers
The shower is my only “me” time, when I can really think and just relax. I take my time in the shower and love it!

4. Wedding plans
Seriously, SO much fun. I wish I had my love with me while I move ahead with the planning, but it’s still a blast to scheme and dream and create our perfect day.

5. Burritos
Mmm. Joshua and I love burritos. I haven’t had one since he left because I feel so guilty that he can’t be here having them with me, since it’s kind of our “thing.” I can’t wait until he’s home again so we can go to Moe’s or Chipotle!

6. Makeup
I love eyeshadow, eyeliner, lip gloss, mascara, all of it. I like to use brushes and mix colors and play around. It’s like painting! Joshua hates makeup and always scolds me for putting on my “face paint.” Even though I usually keep it pretty light and natural!

7. Dresses
I hate pants, really. I love dresses. They’re fun, flowy, and feminine. If I could wear a dress everyday, I would!

8. My independence
I love having my education, my career, and my own life apart from Joshua. As much as I adore him and can’t wait to spend every second of the rest of my life with him, we both believe it’s important in a relationship to have our own interests and goals, in addition to those we have together. Not to mention, girl time with my friends!

9. PAY DAY!
Cha-ching! Money may not buy happiness, but it sure does buy a lot of pretty things. :)

10a. New military friends
It’s so nice meeting other girls and women going through the same crap I am right now. Not even crap, but just this new lifestyle I’m becoming accustomed to. I have my best friends from high school and college who know me inside and out and are constantly here for me too, but even they are glad I’ve met new friends online and through this blog to help me through this with a different perspective and understanding. Yay to new friends!

10b. My darling best friends
Because they’re just too awesome to not let everyone know I love them. I’m blessed with amazing girlfriends, it’s just too bad they all are scattered across the east coast and I don’t see them nearly as much as I’d like to!

10c. My family
My mom, my dad, my brother, and my cousins are incredible too, and I love them all through thick and thin. We’ve had a rough go lately, but we’ll still a family despite it all!

So, as far as giving these awards out… I’m going to mix it up and give both awards to FOUR fellow bloggers who started their blogs recently and have Marines deployed with Joshua. We’re all using our blogs as a coping mechanism, and they’ve been great friends through both blog and Facebook thus far… enjoy ladies!

Annie at simplify
Kristine at Sitting Waiting Wishing
Sydnie at First shot at this
Jessica at Jessikuh

These girls are great and I always look forward to reading their posts.

Pure Sunshine

I haven’t been blogging very long (not even a month yet!), but this past week I was given the “Sunshine Award” from 3 different bloggers:

Laura at Diamonds & Dog Tags
A Marine’s Wife! at Flip Flops and Combat Boots
Mrs. Ma’am at My Life As A Air Force Wife

These are all gals I’ve never met before I started this blog, and I just want to say THANK YOU so much for actually reading and liking enough to say so! Seriously, so far having a blog has been the greatest thing I’ve done since Joshua deployed. It’s held me accountable for scrapbooking (I’m finally getting back into after several years away), wedding planning (it forces me to sit down and collect my thoughts and ideas for the wedding!) and hopefully too, getting in shape for my wedding next year.

So the deal with this award is that I must pass it onto 12 bloggers that inspire others through their positive attitudes and creativeness.

Since I’m still the new kid on the block, I’m going to take my time with this award and post my 12 bloggers in a few weeks after I make more friends and can better pass it along. So there’s that. Thanks again, ladies!
