Going Coastal

GoingCoastal-2

Hello, blogland. You may remember me from my first blog Hard Corps Love, but I’m back with fervor and ready to rumble! I mean… write.

Right. For any long lost readers, here’s what has been going on lately. And to any new readers, hello and welcome! Thank you for stopping by. :-)

Joshua received orders to Jacksonville, North Carolina… his old stomping grounds and first duty station after boot camp. He was stationed here for the first three years of our relationship and for both deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, so even though we were so not excited about moving, it does hold memories for the both of us.

This past year, we celebrated my 28th birthday in May (I’m getting so old!), our two-year wedding anniversary in June, and Joshua’s 27th birthday in July. Ladybug is already 2 1/2! She’s still our only baby, both of the four-legged and mini-me variety. Since everyone likes to ask us, we’re hoping to start trying for little ones sometime before we’re 30. We can’t wait to have babies but we’re still enjoying life just the two of us for now!

GoingCoastal-3Joshua was away at military school for two months between April and June, and during that time we made the big decision to buy our first home! More on that soon. Becoming homeowners has been exhilarating and scary, easy and exciting. We both feel so blessed to be where we are right now. I can’t wait to share all about it!

I’m still working full-time, but I’m now a 100% virtual employee for the same government contractor I worked for in Virginia. This has also been a huge blessing, especially because the job market down here in North Carolina is slim pickins. We made a whole room in our new house my home office and craft space. It’s glorious, and I’m still working on organizing and decorating it to be just the way I like.

We live 3 miles from the beach. Those of you who know me in real life know that I’m not much of a beach girl. I’d take the mountains and a deep cold lake over the coast and salty ocean water any day, but I’ve been embracing the “Salt Life” as much as I can! I even went to the beach one day this summer. I know, I know… I plan to go more next summer. We spent most of our free time moving and painting and decorating during July and August, but luckily we’ll be stationed here for the next 3 years. I have more time to adjust (and get to the beach)!

GoingCoastal-1It has been fun finding a new style for our home decor though. The dark wood, rusty oranges and mustard yellows of our previous homes just didn’t work down here, so we’ve been going for an airy, coastal feel. And we can finally paint!! Lots of blues, turquoises, grays, natural textures and white furniture. We’ve been repainting what we had and adding some new pieces when it’s in the budget. My new blog design kind of reflects the feel of our lives lately… Coastal and cool, but with a fun pop of coral… It’s working so far.

That’s all for the moment. I’m still working out the kinks of my new site so bear with me while I get things running more smoothly. In the meantime… Let me know if anyone out there is reading, and if you have a blog please leave me your address in the comments so I can stop by and say hello!

Oh hello, June.

I am finding it mighty difficult to believe that tomorrow is June 1st and we are one month away from being halfway through 2012! How is this even possible?! I have so much to catch up on and so much ahead of me this month alone that I’m feeling a little stressed out. I hate feeling stressed out. It makes me jumpy, and I don’t function well when I’m jumpy.
Up for me this month:
+ Give the house a good late spring/ early summer cleaning.
The whole place needs a good dusting, sweeping, and mopping. The clutter has to go, too. Time to take control of our house again!
+ Wrap up my two current freelance projects.
It’s looking like it’s time to take a break from Graphic Grace Design for a bit. I can’t give it the attention I need to this summer. Between traveling, working full time, trying to get back in shape, and all the miscellaneous projects I have going on, I think I’ll feel better if I can take care of all of that and return to freelancing this fall.
+ Catch up on Project Life.
Seriously. No, I mean seriously. I’ve let nearly 5 months of the year go undocumented, and it is driving me insane. I will feel so wonderful if I at least catch up a little bit. But the full 5 months would be nice, so I can spend the rest of 2012 up to date.
+ Lose 10 pounds.
I feel so yucky, and this is the most out of shape I’ve ever been in my entire life. Between discovering my wheat allergy and messing with my birth control and other medications I was on, my hormones are completely out of whack and I seriously need to detox and lose some major weight. I fully intend to make use of my new gym membership (at $50 a month, how could I not?) and to join my co-workers in a Jillian Michaels inspired challenge they’ve taken on. Onward!
+ Stick to the budget.
We have a few trips coming up this summer, so it’s especially important that hubs and I stick to our budget this month. There’s a long weekend in Upstate New York, a baby shower in New Jersey, a birthday weekend in Las Vegas (!), a blogging conference in NYC, and lots of other local things we’d like to explore. Budget now, fun later!
+ Catch up on reading.
Books, magazines, blogs, eBooks, you name it… gotta read ‘em, share ‘em, toss ‘em, or move on.
+ Take another look at my 2012 resolutions
It’s been so long since I’ve looked at them, I kind of forget what I’m supposed to be working toward. A good reevaluation is just what I need.
+ Blog.
Blog more. Blog anything, really. Comment on blogs. Finish redesigning this blog. Or finally decide to create a new blog and get on with things. I’m going to BlogHer in New York City this August, so I need to get things sorted out soon! So excited.
+ Be nicer to my husband.
I’ll be honest. I can be a pretty big jerk some days. I could blame my hormones, but really… I just need to be nicer, and try harder, and keep working at being a better wife and partner. I love him with all of my heart, but I let my emotions get the best of me sometimes. Not the good emotions, either. The impatient, nagging, sarcastic emotions. Blah. #wifefail
+ Celebrate our 1-Year Wedding Anniversary.
June 18th, baby! I don’t know how, I don’t know what… but I want to make sure we start off our wedding anniversaries with some kind of special tradition we can follow for all the years to come.
+ Create a family management binder.
I’ve seen a lot of these floating around the web lately, and I so love the idea of having everything in place. I’ll share more when I make something of it. ;-)
+ Back up all my digital photos onto CDs and my external hard drive.
I haven’t done this in about a year, and I have this serious panic that something might happen & I might lose all these photo memories that have yet to make it in scrapbooks or Facebook albums. This is a must!
Okay, I’m gonna say that’s it for now. My to-do list is a thousand miles longer, but if I can possibly get these tasks done, I will feel quite accomplished.

27.

Today… was a lovely day.  Just wanted to check in & let you all know that I am a year older! Ahhh! I’ll post details about my day later, but for now… let me just say that I love life.

Hello, blogland!

Happy February 1st! Back with my first ever vlog.

Note to self: video blogs are awkward. And… apparently I look up when I’m thinking. A lot. Again… awkward!

I wanted to “introduce” myself to you readers. Am I this awkward in real life? Probably. ♥

At the end I meant to say, “have a good day.” But I recorded this at 11pm last night… again, too busy to write! Ahhh when will it all slow down?

P.S. Dogs can’t say hi. Haha.

December Currents

Current song:Ours” by Taylor Swift. Milspouse friends… watch ’til the end, such a sweet surprise!

Current movie: White Christmas. It’s our first Ploscik family tradition. Our first Christmas together when Joshua wasn’t deployed, we spent with some of his family in Florida. His Aunt Becky loves the movie White Christmas, and watches it daily throughout December. We all watched it together in Florida… Joshua and me, his Aunt Becky & Uncle Jeff, and his grandparents. Since then… we watch it once every Christmas.

Also… It’s a Wonderful Life. This is my Dad’s favorite Christmas movie and thus, a Hulse family tradition to watch each December. The older I get, the more I fall in love with it. I always used to wonder why my Dad got teary-eyed when he watched it… and now I understand. I practically cried through the entire film this season! “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings.”

Current blog: Confessions of a 20 Something by the lovely Allison, a.k.a. Pink Lou Lou. Love her style, her photos, her videos, and her sweet sassy attitude. Definitely a favorite of mine to read! Oh, and she’s also a graphic designer. Love.

Current hair: When I was home in New York visiting my family for Thanksgiving, my awesome hair stylist cousin Amanda gave me this rockin’ color. I went platinum all over with some brownish lowlights in the front, with heavy side-sweep bangs. I’ve been wearing my hair like this every day since.

Current color: Red. My favoritest color ever.

Current website: Amazon.com, where I made my Christmas list. Yay!

Current iPhone app: Instagram. Can you say obsessed?

Current book: Still getting through Happily Ever After by Nora Roberts, and sporadically reading Maria Menounas’ EveryGirl’s Guide to Life. Hers in my fave of the two… Nora’s was better on tape, as I read the first three of the Bride Quartet series. Hoping to find time to finish these over Christmas vacation!

Happy Ever After Everygirl's Guide To Life

Current nail polish: I change my polish a lot, and I’m about to repaint a sparkly red Christmas color… but for now, it’s OPI Cajun Shrimp:

Current photo: My handsome Husband cooking breakfast for us one morning. I swear, I woke up and he was downstairs, scrambling eggs, playing Christmas music. I fall more in love with him every day.

Current quote:

Current food: Summer salads in the winter. Nom nom nom.

Current blessing: My wonderfully amazing family, both the one I was born into and the one I’m creating with Joshua and Lady.

Current scent: Mmm, my Scentsy candles are burning Festival of Trees. Love evergreens & fir! Reminds me of home.

Current Pin: Santa strawberries. OMG.

Current guilty pleasure: ‘NSync’s Christmas album. Duh!

Current laugh: The ridiculousness that is Photo Booth on iMac. We laughed for hours at the photos we took. Please take a moment to enjoy the Plosciks as aliens…

Current drink: Monster Rehab. Which Husband encouraged me to take to work on a particularly sleepy day. Mmm. Lemonade energy.

Current excitement: Christmas is coming! Christmas is coming! We’re going to Cleveland to spend the holiday with Husband’s family, and when we come back to Virginia my Mom is coming to visit from New York for a few days! Yes yes yes!

Current Ladybug: Our baby is all dressed up & ready for her Christmas stocking, which is full of puppy goodies. Isn’t she the sweetest?
